These figures are estimates designed to illustrate the potential environmental benefits of choosing preloved clothing instead of buying new.
For this calculator, each preloved garment is estimated to represent 3 kg of CO₂e emissions avoided and 2,700 litres of water footprint avoided.
The petrol-car comparison assumes approximately 0.28 kg of CO₂e per mile. The bathtub comparison assumes approximately 80 litres of water per bath.
Environmental impacts vary depending on garment type, materials, manufacturing process, transport, lifespan and whether buying preloved directly replaces the purchase of a new garment.
These figures should therefore be considered indicative rather than exact measurements.
